This group of 30 boys and girls, ages 8 to 16, drew its membership from the  Mandaue School for the Arts’ artistically inclined children. The Mandaue School for the Arts Children’s Choir (its former name) first came into prominence when it garnered FIRST PLACE in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) on November 27, 2004. From then on the Mandaue Children’s Choir became the recipient of the coveted GARBO SA SUGBO AWARD given by Gov. Gwendolyn F. Garcia on December 22, 2004 at the Capitol Social Hall, Cebu City. On February 28, 2006, the group received the PERLAS AWARD (highest award for performing arts in Cebu) at SM Cinema 1, Cebu City.

The latest feather to the cap of the Mandaue Children’s Choir is being the World Champion in the Children’s Choir Category, Grand Prix Competition of the First World Choir Championships in Gyeongnam Province, Republic of Korea, July 7-17, 2009.

The Mandaue Children's Choir will be performing on their thanksgiving concert on September 19, 2009 at the Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center,  Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.

Justin Jee is a rising senior at Yale University, where he studies piano with Wei-Yi Yang and chamber music with Wendy Sharp, both on the faculty of the University’s School of Music. He is a member of the Yale Glee Club and was their piano accompanist for the world premier of Two Shakespearian Poems, a work by eminent American composer Ned Rorem.  He recently played in a gala at the Rockefeller Center in New York City, sponsored by The Yale Development Office and has played in many solo and shared recitals sponsored by the Yale University Sudler Fund for the Arts, First Adventist Friends International, MTAC Young Artists’ Guild, and others.

Last year he was the co-winner of Yale College’s Friends of Music Recital Competition. Before coming to Yale, Justin studied with Debra Alderete and was a three-time gold medalist in the Southern California Junior Bach Festival and winner of the Music Teachers’ Association of California’s Young Artist Guild competition, State Masterclass Competition, and Panel Honors Competition. He also won many top prizes at the Southwestern Youth Music Festival, including first place in the prestigious Young Recitalist category.

Gala Filipina will be presented by the Cebu chapter of the Consular Corps of the Philippines on July 31 at 7:00pm at Salon de España of Casino Español de Cebu. It will launch the 50th anniversary since the founding of the Arts Council of Cebu in 1960. Arts Council became a foundation in 1990.

Cebu Holdings Inc. is the sole sponsor of the event to promote its Amara project in the municipality of Liloan. A profile of it will be presented to the guests during a brief program before dinner. A booth at the entrance of the ballroom will also provide informative material.

The evening’s welcome remarks and rationale will be given by Arts Council’s President Petite Garcia and Honorary Consul of Spain Jaime Picornell, Chairman of the Cebu Consular Corps.

Guests in attendance are requested to come in Filipino attire which means Barong for the men and Filipiniana gowns for the ladies.

Officers and members of the Consular Corps as well as officers and trustees of the Arts Council with their respective partners will be called to take a walk about and around the dance floor. They will stay in place for the opening waltz.

All those present will be asked to join the dancing couples and remain for the dance music that will ensue. It will be provided by Roland Suarez (live) and DJ Bong Suzara (recorded).
