PROGRAMME

EGYPTIAN MOSAIC
Music: Luigini

A ballet inspired by the music of Alexander Luigini. It is classically based with overtones of ethnic positions. The “Slick Dance” is the choreographer’s concession to the Egyptians’ love of “Stick Fighting”, which they performed as a tribute to the Pharaoh.  First performed in 1961 by the Queen City Junior Ballet, with Mario Recto and Carmencita Villamor in the lead roles and has never performed again. It has undergone some minor revisions, but the essence of the original remains the same.

PAS POUR HOMMES

A ballet especially choreographed to show off men’s attributes as artists and athletes. It conveys the discipline, resilience and teamwork gained through ballet training.

TARANTELLE
Music: Gottschalk

A lively southern Italian dance with origins dating back to 15th century Italy, danced supposedly to cure, through perspiration, the delirium and contortions attributed to the bite of the spider, “tarantula” at harvest time. The dance was later applied as a supposed cure for the behavior of neurotic women.
